Actually there is neither trustworthy method nor software available in the market for male-female masterpieces nominal distance calculation. This is a common large problem for workshops that deal with mould making and their correctness. Knowing this distance is essential in stamping or pressing tasks for automotive industry. For this purpose a 3D point laser scanner attached to a milling machine for pressing moulds measurement is used (male and female masterpieces by separate), leading to dense point clouds for different CAD systems transcription. After these point clouds meshing and alignment it is feasible the nominal distance calculation. These aspects have been gathered in a software application in order to determine the distance on pressure direction (nominal) between a masterpiece and its negative.
